Trilogy Week #47 - The Evil Dead Trilogy

This is going to be a quick one, this is the first actual true trilogy that I have posted. Usually it's three movies that have nothing to do with each other, but all have a similarity to them that makes the trilogy interesting. This time how ever I had to move some stuff around and wasn't able to get the post I was going to make. That's not to take away from the Evil Dead, because it's totally awesome. It's just a last minute, but good replacement.

Title: The Evil Dead
Year: 1981
Director: Sam Raimi
Cast: Bruce Campbell, Betsy Baker, Ellen Sandweiss, Richard DeManincor, Theresa Tilly, Ted Raimi
Rated: R
Running Time: 1hr. 25mins.

My Review: You can tell that this is Sam Raimi's film depute. He is trying to make an interesting film, with some experimental camera work. But what falls short with me is the pacing, it is so slow, painfully at times. And the special effects at parts are really bad, you can actually see the budget of the movie on the actors faces. 6 out of 10 Magnifying Glass Necklaces

Title: The Evil Dead 2
Year: 1987
Director: Sam Raimi
Cast: Bruce Campbell, Sarah Berry, Dan Hicks, Kassie Wesley DePaiva, Ted Raimi
Rated: R
Running Time: 1hr. 24mins.

My Review: Some people think that this was a re-make of The Evil Dead, but they would be wrong. The beginning shows scenes that happened in the first one, because Sam Raimi wanted recap the audience to know why they were in the cabin, but couldn't get the footage from the first movie, so he had re-film those scenes. What the first movie lacked was perfected in this one. Raimi really shows him perfecting his craft in this one. The camera work is great, the pacing is better, and the effects are awesome. This is a great one to watch, by far my favorite in the trilogy.  8 out of 10 Possessed Hands

Title: The Army of Darkness
Year: 1992
Director: Sam Raimi
Cast: Bruce Campbell, Embeth Davidtz, Marcus Gilbert, Ian Abercrombie, Bridget Fonda, Ted Raimi
Rated: R
Running Time: 1hr. 20mins.

My Review: This one is just flat out silly. Even though the first two were a little campy and slap-sticky, this one goes balls to the wall with weird slap stick humor. Still a lot of fun to watch, just don't take this one very seriously, or you will fail in enjoying a great cult hit. 7 out of 10 Boom Sticks!
