Trilogy Week #26 Martin, Bob, and Joe

You can't go wrong when you mix Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci in a movie together. The end result is cinema gold. You've got Scorsese's great camera work and story telling, De Niro's cool swaggering demeanor, and Pesci's constant swearing, your guaranted for a exciting time. Also If you're familiar with these movies, another actor that's in all three of these films is Frank Vincent, I didn't add him to this list because you don't know who that is. And..... all three of these films are based on actual events. If you haven't seen these movies already, go out and watch them soon before Joe Pesci stabs you in the neck with a ball point pen.

Title: Raging Bull
Year: 1980
Director: Martin Scorsese
Cast: Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Cathy Moriarty
Rated: R
Running Time: 2hrs. 09mins.

My Review: Not as exciting as Scorsese's other films, the only thing that makes this movie work, is the dialogue between De Niro, & Pesci. There's just something about these two actors that plays together so well. And I like the choice to make the film black & white, it gives it a very classic look. What I didn't like about the film is that it is very slow paced, and as for other characters in other Scorsese pictures, even though he has a lot of brutal characters, they still have a coolness, and a interesting background to them that is fun to watch, but De Niro's character Jake La Motta is a piece of shit asshole. I hate this character, he's a real scumbag that treats women like shit. I am supposed to root for this character? It's one of the few things that can ruin a movie for me is hating the main character. If you think this is a boxing movie like Rocky, you will be very dissapointed. It's about a guy struggling through life, not trusting anybody (including his brother) who happens to be a boxer.  6 out of 10 Punches to the face

Title: Goodfellas
Year: 1990
Director: Martin Scorsese
Cast: Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Ray Liotta, Paul Sorvino
Rated: R
Running Time: 2hrs. 25mins.

My Review: Brilliant acting by De Niro, Pesci, and Liotta, as most of their dialogue was improvised, especially the "what do you mean I'm funny?" scene. Inspired by a true story, this movie is very intriguing about the life of mobsters in New York in the early 70's. The authentication of the film is pretty accurate, as a lot of ex-gangsters, and family members were on set, to give Scorsese tips on the history of the real events, which makes the film feel very thrilling and real.... Which it was. 9 out of 10 trailing helicopters

Title: Casino
Year: 1995
Director: Martin Scorsese
Cast: Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, James Woods
Rated: R
Running Time: 2hrs. 58mins.

My Review: This film is exciting to watch with it's inner workings of running a casino, and the progressing chaos between De Niro & Sharon Stone's characters. Their relationship is a train wreck, you know it's a bad idea from the get go but you can't look away, you wait for this Jenga tower to fall, and when it does it's a tragic mess. But of course the film doesn't work without Pesci, he keeps the film on track, playing another hardcore thug is still exciting to watch. He does kick the crap out of Frank Vincent's characters in both Raging Bull, and Goodfellas, but Frank gets his revenge on Pesci in this film, in one the most brutal beatings I've ever seen, you feel every hit. 8 out of 10 exploding cars
