Trilogy Week #14 - Bill Murray

One of my favorite comedic actors ever! I'm always excited to see a movie that has Bill Murray in it because I know I won't be disappointed by his character work.... except for....Garfield..... Anyways this week I celebrate the comedic talents of the amazing Bill Murray.

Title: Groundhog Day
Year: 1993
Director: Harold Ramis
Cast: Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, Chris Elliott, Stephen Tobolowsky, Brian Doyle-Murray
Rated: PG

My Review:  In one word, this movie is perfect. Such a brilliant concept to have a man stuck in the same day, over and over again. But such a brilliant way comically, because you can experiment with different ways to perform a scene. Each way is different, and each way effects the rest of the movie. With Bill Murray ad-libbing  a lot of his dialogue.  In the DVD extras Harold Ramis says that, the same day is repeated for 10 years. And speaking of 10, this movie is a 10 out of 10.

Title: The Man Who Knew Too Little
Year: 1997
Director: Jon Amiel
Cast: Bill Murray, Peter Gallagher, Joanne Whalley, Alfred Molina, Richard Wilson
Rated: PG

My Review: Another great idea for a movie, to have a man think he's in a live performance piece, and everyone else thinks he's a secret agent. Bill Murray plays this character flawlessly. He makes you believe this character is genuinely naive about what's really happening around him. A little over the top, but still very enjoyable. 8 out of 10

Title: What About Bob?
Year: 1991
Director: Frank Oz
Cast: Bill Murray, Richard Dreyfuss,  Julie Hagerty, Charlie Korsmo, Kathryn Erbe
Rated: PG

My Review: Billy Murray always plays the smarmy, sarcastic, comedian. So to see him in this film playing a neurotic man, with a plethora of mental abnormalities seemed a little out of Bill's wheel house. But I was very surprised how well he pulled it off. So annoying, and obliviously obnoxious, has his persona really gets under Richard Dreyfuss' fingernails, and slowly makes him go crazy with anger. I avoided this movie forever, because the box art looked so stupid, and wasn't worth my watching. But of course, don't judge a book by it's cover. Otherwise you will miss this gem of comedy. 9 out of 10
