Trilogy Week #25 Desolate Earth

Well, Earth Day is almost over, but we should continue to remember how are impact on the environment can effect the earth. So here's three movie that show what our involvment could do to the earth. Do something! Or I will eat you!

Title: Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
Year: 1981
Director: George Miller
Cast: Mel Gibson, Bruce Spence, Michael Preston
Rated: R
Running Time: 1hr. 35min.

My Review: Crazy! This movie is the poster child for post-apocalyptic movies. One of Mel Gibson's first movies, before he scrapped his Australian accent, for an American one. This movie has some crazy looking characters, and some epic chase scenes. Not much of a story, but It's still fun to watch. This was one of the first movies that started the trend of Ozploitation films in Australia in the late 70's and early 80's. Full of chaotic violence and some intense stunt work.  7 out of 10 feral monkey children

Title: Waterworld
Year: 1995
Director: Kevin Reynolds
Cast: Kevin Costner, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Dennis Hopper, Tina Majorino
Rated: PG-13
Running Time: 2hr. 15min.

My Review: First of all, you can not take this film seriously. If you do, you will hate this movie. I on the other hand am in the minority of people that enjoys this movie. Especially Dennis Hopper. He knows what type of movie this is, and has a lot of fun with it. Just ignore Kevin Costner who acts like a piece of cardboard. You might say this movie is the Road Warrior on the water. Not as exciting as the Road Warrior but still enjoyable. Just Imagine Mel Gibson as the lead character.... with gills... 6 out of 10 back tattoos

Title: The Road
Year: 2009
Director: John Hillcoat
Cast: Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce
Rated: R
Running Time: 1hr. 51min.

My Review: Very depressing view of what would probably happen if we actually lived in a post-apocalyptic world. A bleak world, with no animals, plants, and cannibalism. Viggo Mortensen & Kodi Smit-McPhee are amazing to watch. This movie feels more like a documentary. A beautifully ugly movie.  8 out of 10 cans of coke
