Trilogy Week #22 - Famous Twist Endings

Happy April Fool's Day! Today we are celebrating three famous twist endings in movie history. If you haven't seen these movies, I suggest you see them ASAP. And if the secrets have already been spoiled for you, then watch them anyway. They are like watching a different movie the second time around. Plus if you can find it, I left a little secret of my own in this post. Enjoy

Title: The Sixth Sense
Year: 1999
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Cast: Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette, Olivia Williams
Rated: PG-13
Running Time: 1 hr. 47 min.

My Review: Say what you want about M. Night Shyamalan, but this movie is a masterpiece. If you can only have one, this is it. Nothing he will ever make will live up to this piece of art. A beautiful story, great acting, and a twist ending that shocked everybody. When I first saw this, I thought hear comes the next great director that will hail in comparison to Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese. Then he just tried to copy this film, over, and over again. And each movie that followed got worse and worse. Now just the refference of the name M. Night Shyamalan is a joke in it's self. While watching this movie again, I was worried that his following horrible ideas would ruin this movie. But it didn't, this movie holds up very well. So well, that It doesn't feel like the M. Night that we've seen in recent years. If you see any of his movies, see this one, and ignore the rest. 10 out of 10

                                                                                                                                                               *
Title: The Usual Suspects
Year: 1995
Director: Bryan Singer
Cast: Kevin Spacey, Chazz Palminteri, Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Pollak, Stephen Baldwin, Benicio Del Toro, Pete Postlethwaite
Rated: R
Running Time: 1 hr. 46 min.

My Review: I believe that Bryan Singer is still living of the brilliant reputation of this movie. Everything after this as been very disappointing. Especially Superman Returns. By trying to add a twist to the movie that was so stupid, it literally made the audience in theaters laugh, rather than gasp in surprise. But we're not hear to talk about that shitty movie. The Usual Suspects is great in every way, from the plot, the twist, to the great acting. Even Steven Baldwin is good in this film. This movie isn't only a favorite of movie buffs, but to the actors themselves. On Kevin Pollak's chat show, he doesn't shut up about how great this movie was for him.  8 out of 10

                                                                                                                                                               *
Title: Fight Club
Year: 1999
Director: David Fincher
Cast: Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Helena Bonham Carter, Meat Loaf,
Rated: R
Running Time: 2 hrs. 20 mins.

My Review: When this film came out It blew audiences away. Even as far as to start underground fight clubs all around the continent. The world became over saturated with this movie after it came out. So much that the sweet taste of this movie started to turn sour in our mouths. But now going back to it, it still holds up as well as it did when it was first released. The unique way David Fincher worked with the editing, camera work, and special effects are still surprisingly effective. And the best part of this movie has to be the dialogue. But mainly due to Chuck Palahniuk (the author) more than David Fincher. After this surprising reveal of this movie, it had been copied over and over in following movies. So much that it's now considered to be a cop out. Sometimes the trick only works once. 9 out of 10
